The addition of Ca element in steel such as S420ML equivalent steel can refine grain size, partly desulphurize and change the composition, quantity and morphology of non-metallic inclusions. It is similar to that of adding rare earth in steel. It can improve the corrosion resistance, wear resistance, high temperature and low temperature resistance of steel, improve the impact toughness, fatigue strength, plasticity and welding performance of the steel, and increase the cold heading, shock resistance, hardness and contact endurance strength of the steel.

When using S420ML equivalent steel, low-alloy high-strength steel, it is desirable to take advantage of its high strength and use a thinner section, not only for saving weight but also for the economy as much as possible. However, the corrosion factor must be fully considered. The thinner the steel section, the more attention should be paid to corrosion protection. Some low-alloy high-strength steels have good atmospheric corrosion resistance, which can not only improve the effect of anti-corrosion coatings, but in some cases, take appropriate precautions and can even be used without being coated in the atmosphere.

The European Iron and Steel Industry Union (Eurofer) has sent a letter to the president of the European Commission, asking the Commission to review the existing trade safeguard measures immediately, proposing to reduce the steel import quota by 75% within six months to help the European steel industry cope with the current difficult situation; For imported steel exceeding the quota, the tariff rate can be reduced to less than 25%. Europe has also proposed restrictions on S420ML equivalent steel and so on steel imports related to crisis and safety.
