Pipeline steel S420ML equivalent refers to the hot rolled coil plate or wide thick plate used to transport oil, natural gas and other large-diameter welded steel pipes. In the process of using pipeline steel, it is required not only to have high compressive strength, but also to have high low temperature toughness and excellent welding performance. Pipeline steel plates are used to make oil and gas pipelines. The main S420ML equivalent pipeline steel grades are API 5L grade B, API 5L X42, API 5L X60, API 5L X65 and so on.

S420ML equivalent, No. 20 steel belongs to high-quality carbon steel.No. 20 steel means steel with an average carbon content of 0.20%;The thermal conductivity of No. 20 steel at 315℃ is 48 W/m℃;No. 20 steel is generally not quenched, the general treatment method is carburizing or normalizing;The yield strength of No. 20 steel is not less than 250MPa;The tensile strength of No. 20 steel is not less than 420MPa;Elongation of No. 20 steel is not less than 25%;The reduction of area is not less than 55%;The density of S420ML equivalent and No. 20 steel is 7.85kg/cm3

As the thickness and hardness of S420ML equivalent increase, the tendency to crack at the cutting edge increases. In order to prevent the S420ML equivalent from cutting cracks, preheating should be carried out before S420ML equivalent cutting. Special attention should be paid to preheating to make the entire S420ML equivalent interface evenly heated to avoid local overheating in the area contacting the heat source. If the whole S420ML equivalent cannot be preheated, the partial preheating method can be used instead.
