The carbon content of S460ML steel, hot rolled steel plate is slightly higher than that of cold rolled steel plate. Hot rolled steel plate has low hardness, easy processing and good ductility. Cold rolled steel plate has high hardness and is difficult to process, but it is not easy to deform and has high strength. The strength of hot-rolled steel plate is relatively low, the surface quality (oxidation finish) is low, but the plasticity is good, and it is generally medium thick plate.

Bridge steel plates are thick steel plates made of carbon steel and low-alloy steel for bridge construction. The main applications of bridge steel plates are to build railway bridges, highway bridges, and sea-crossing bridges. The bridge steel plates are required to have high strength, durability and bear the load and impact of rolling stock. S460ML steel, Chinese material Q235B is one of the most widely used carbon steel in the world. Some like to compare its strength with other equivalent steel grades. For the min. yield strength of Q235B steel plate: it is 235Mpa if thickness ≤16mm, 225 Mpa for thickness 16-40mm, 215 Mpa for thickness 40-60mm, 205 Mpa for thickness 60-100mm, 195 Mpa for thickness 100-150mm, 185 Mpa for thickness over 150mm. The tensile strength of Q235B steel plate is 375-500 Mpa.
