S460ML steel equivalent application and performance

ASTM A514 steel is mainly used in places where high tensile strength and high yield are required, such as engineering vehicle lifting gears, large excavators, offshore platforms, etc. Different grades of A514 steel plate have different thickness, chemical composition and properties. However, the S460ML steel equivalent mechanical properties specified in ASTM A514 are similar to those of Q690 in China. A514 grade Q is generally used as the rack for offshore platform. Its hardness is between 230-390MPa, yield is greater than 630MPa, and tensile strength is more than 700MPa.

After quenching and tempering, 40Cr alloy steel plate and S460ML steel equivalent sheet have good comprehensive mechanical properties, good low temperature impact toughness and low notch sensitivity. The hardenability of steel S460ML steel equivalent is good. It can be hardened to Ф28 ～ 60mm during water quenching and Ф15 ～ 40mm during oil quenching. In addition to quenching and tempering, this steel is also suitable for cyanidation and induction hardening. The cutting performance is better. When the hardness is HB174 ～ 229, the relative cutting workability is 60%. 40Cr alloy steel is suitable for making medium-sized plastic molds.

The advantages of flame cutting are simple cutting and low cost. The disadvantage of flame cutting is that when cutting thin plates, cutting deformation problems are prone to occur, and the materials that can be cut have certain limitations. The advantage of CNC cutting is that it can cut S460ML steel equivalent and any complex parts with high cutting accuracy. The disadvantage of CNC cutting is that there are certain operational and technical requirements.
