Q355GNH weathering steel is a kind of atmospheric corrosion resistant steel, which has better corrosion resistance than EN 10025 S355ML/NL, ordinary carbon steel by adding less alloy elements. Q355GNH weathering steel has been widely used in container, railway vehicle, bridge, building and air preheater which need to be resistant to atmospheric corrosion. Q355GNH weathering steel is characterized by the addition of less Cu, P, Cr, Ni and other alloy elements in the steel, so that a dense amorphous spinel type oxide layer with a thickness of about 50-100μm is formed between the rust layer and the base metal, which can prevent oxygen and water from penetrating into the steel matrix, slow down the development of corrosion to steel materials, and improve the atmospheric corrosion resistance.

According to GBT3077, 42CrMo steel chemical composition should be within the range (%): 42CrMo carbon content is 0.38-0.45 (C), Silicon content is 0.17-0.37 (Si), Manganese content is 0.50-0.80 (Mn), Chrome content is 0.90-1.20 (Cr), Molybdenum content is 0.15-0.25 (Mo). The high Cr content contrivutes to high strength of 42CrMo steel, with min. yield strength of 930 Mpa, and min. tensile strength of 1080 Mpa. The common heat treatment for EN 10025 S355ML/NL, 42CrMo steel is quenching and tempering.

Advantages of EN 10025 S355ML/NL, ordinary carbon killed steel plate: there is no gas in the steel plate, the impurity is relatively small, the stress is very uniform, and it has good welding performance. It is widely used in parts with high requirements. Disadvantages of ordinary carbon killed steel plate: the surface quality of the killed steel plate is not as good as that of boiling plates, there are concentrated shrinkage holes, and the killed steel plate price is more expensive.
